How it works

Hours per year = minutes x days a week x 52 / 60. A 20-minute walk 5 days a week is 5,200 minutes, or about 87 hours.

Distance = hours x speed, or the distance of each walk x walks per year.

A month is one twelfth of the year.

Formulas and details
  • Hours a year = minutes per walk x walks per week x 52 / 60.
  • Distance = hours x speed.

Assumptions

  • The minutes, days and speed are yours.
  • A year is counted as 52 weeks.
  • The page does only arithmetic. It makes no claim about what walking does for health.

Example

Input: The starting values already in the form

Result: Your 20-minute daily walk adds up to about 87 hours of walking a year. At 5 days a week that is 1 hour 40 minutes a week, and about 260 miles (418 km) over the year at 3.0 mph.

Questions

Does it count calories?

No. The Calories Burned Estimator does that separately, with the activity and weight you enter.

Why 52 weeks?

A year has 52 weeks and one or two days, so 52 weeks is the plain approximation. It is stated so you can check the working.
