Daily Value Calculator

What does % Daily Value mean?

Enter the amount of a nutrient and see what percent of the Daily Value it is.

About this tool & how to use it

What it does

Turns the amount of a nutrient in a serving into a percent of its FDA Daily Value and says whether it is low (5% or less) or high (20% or more) by the FDA marks.

How to use it

  1. Choose the nutrient. Its Daily Value fills in.
  2. Enter the amount in the serving.
  3. Read the percent first, then how it compares with the FDA low and high marks.

In the unit shown for the nutrient above.

How it works

%DV = amount / Daily Value x 100. 5 g of fiber against 28 g is about 18%.

The FDA label page (read 2026-10-04) says 5% DV or less of a nutrient per serving is low and 20% or more is high. Those are the only words the page uses.

The Daily Values are the FDA figures on the page the Healthy Eating tools use.

Formulas and details
  • %DV = amount / Daily Value x 100.

Assumptions

  • Daily Values are label reference amounts based on a 2,000 calorie diet. They are not a personal target.
  • The amount is the one you enter.
  • Low and high describe the share of the Daily Value only. They are not good or bad.

Example

Input: The starting values already in the form

Result: 5 g of fiber is about 18% of the Daily Value (28 g). That is between the FDA's "low" (5% or less) and "high" (20% or more) marks for one serving.

Questions

Is high a bad thing?

It depends on the nutrient and on you. The FDA marks describe how much a serving contributes. A high fiber share and a high sodium share mean different things.

Why 2,000 calories?

That is the diet the label Daily Values are based on. Your own needs may differ.
