Everything is calculated in your browser: the prices and numbers you enter are never sent anywhere or stored. We do not know any store's prices or tax rates, and these results are arithmetic, not advice to buy.

How it works

Cost per year = (price - resale value) / years + upkeep per year. ($1,200 - $200) / 5 + $50 = $250.

Assumptions

  • The resale value and upkeep are your own estimates.
  • It is the cost per use idea over years instead of uses.

Example

Input: The starting values already in the form

Result: Owning it for 5 years would cost about $250.00 a year ($1,250.00 in all).

Questions

How do I work out the cost per year of something?

Take the price minus what you will sell it for, divide by the years and add the yearly upkeep.

Can the resale value be higher than the price?

The page refuses it: then it would not have cost anything to own.
