How to Use the Where Did My Day Go?
The Simple Answer
Where Did My Day Go? lays out your 24 hours from the hours you enter for sleep, work, commuting, meals and more, drawn to scale, with the week and the year for each part.
What the tool does
Share of the day = hours / 24. Week = hours x 7. Year = hours x 365. The parts are drawn to scale in one bar. A gap shows time you did not enter, and an overage shows if the parts add up to more than 24 hours.
How to use it
- Enter the hours for sleep, work or school, commuting, meals, chores, TV, phone, exercise and anything else.
- Add parts of your own if you like, one per line as a name and hours, such as Reading, 0.5.
- Read the sentence first, then the share of the day, the week and the year for each part.
A worked example
Sleep 8 hours and work 8 hours use two thirds of the day and leave 8 hours of the 24. Sleep alone is 8 x 365 = 2,920 hours a year.
Things to know
- The hours are your estimates of an average day.
- Overlapping activities, such as a podcast while commuting, are counted by you. The page cannot split them.
- Everything you type stays in the page.
Common questions
What if my parts add up to more than 24? The page shows the overage so you can adjust. Some activities overlap.
Can I add my own activity? Yes. Add it in the custom box, one per line.
