Do the math
How many days have you actually been alive?
The Simple Answer
A 30-year-old has lived about 11,000 days. A 60-year-old has lived about 22,000, and an 80-year-old about 29,000. Enter your birthday below for your exact number.

The number is bigger than most people guess, because we count our lives in years and years are a coarse unit. A day is the unit you actually live in.
How the count works
You count the days from your birth date to today. A year is a little longer than 365 days, which is why a leap day is added about every four years: NASA says it takes Earth about 365 days and 6 hours to go around the Sun. Those leap days are part of your total, so a person born on the same date as you in a different year may have lived a day more or fewer.
The milestone days
| Days alive | About this many years |
|---|---|
| 1,000 | 2.7 |
| 5,000 | 13.7 |
| 10,000 | 27.4 (27 years and about 4½ months) |
| 15,000 | 41.1 |
| 20,000 | 54.8 |
| 25,000 | 68.4 |
Someone born on 1 January 2000
On 4 October 2026 they are 9,773 days old.
Their 10,000th day is 19 May 2027, when they are 27 years old and about four and a half months.
The interesting part
Almost nobody marks their 10,000th day, yet it arrives a couple of years before the big 30th birthday and means exactly as much. Round numbers are only special because we chose them. If you like the idea, pick a day count, work out the date, and put it in the calendar.
