Sleep Time Calculator

How much sleep am I getting?

Enter when you went to bed and when you woke up to see how much sleep that is.

About this tool & how to use it

What it does

Counts the hours you slept from a bedtime and a wake time across midnight, less the time to fall asleep and any time awake in the night. It does not measure sleep or judge the amount.

How to use it

  1. Enter your bedtime and your wake time, such as 10:30 PM and 6:45 AM.
  2. If you like, add the minutes it took to fall asleep and the minutes you were awake in the night.
  3. Read the hours of sleep first, then the working.

How it works

Time in bed runs from the bedtime to the next time the clock shows the wake time, so 10:30 PM to 6:45 AM is 8 hours 15 minutes.

Time asleep = time in bed - minutes to fall asleep - minutes awake in the night.

It also shows what seven nights like that would add up to.

Formulas and details
  • Time asleep = (wake time - bedtime, across midnight) - minutes to fall asleep - minutes awake.

Assumptions

  • The numbers are the ones you enter. The page does not measure sleep.
  • It does not judge whether the amount is enough.
  • Everything you type stays in this page. Nothing is sent or saved.

Example

Input: The starting values already in the form

Result: You're getting about 8 hours of sleep. That is 8 hours 15 minutes in bed from 10:30 PM to 6:45 AM (past midnight), less 15 minutes to fall asleep and 0 awake in the night.

Questions

Does it work if I go to bed after midnight?

Yes. A wake time earlier on the clock than the bedtime is read as the next morning, and a bedtime after midnight works the same way.

Does it track my sleep?

No. It does the arithmetic on the times you type. It does not read a device or record anything.
