Sleep Difference Calculator

How does my sleep compare with my goal?

Enter a nightly goal you choose and the sleep you got each night to see how they compare.

About this tool & how to use it

What it does

Compares the sleep you got on several nights with a goal you choose and says how much more or less it was in total and on an average night. Nothing is saved.

How to use it

  1. Enter the nightly goal you want to compare against, such as 8 or 7:30.
  2. Enter your sleep for each night, one per line, as hours (6.5), 6:30 or 6h 30m.
  3. Read the total difference first, then the average night and the nights under and over the goal.

Hours such as 7.5, or 7:30. You choose the goal.

Hours such as 6.5, or 6:30. Nothing is saved: your list stays in this page.

How it works

Difference = total sleep - (goal x number of nights). A negative number means less than the goal you chose.

Seven nights of 7.5, 6, 6.5, 7, 5.5, 8 and 7 hours add up to 47.5 hours against a 56-hour goal: 8 hours 30 minutes less.

The average difference is that total divided by the number of nights.

Formulas and details
  • Difference = sum of nightly sleep - goal x nights.
  • Average difference = difference / nights.

Assumptions

  • The goal is yours. It is not a medical target.
  • The page does not diagnose anything and does not use the words sleep debt as a condition.
  • Everything you type stays in this page. Nothing is sent or saved.

Example

Input: The starting values already in the form

Result: You slept about 8 hours 30 minutes less than your selected goal over 7 nights. That is about 1 hour 13 minutes under your goal on an average night.

Questions

Is this the same as sleep debt?

It is the plain difference between the sleep you entered and a goal you chose. It does not claim to measure a medical condition or say that a gap has to be made up.

Can I paste a week of numbers?

Yes. Put one night on each line. The list stays in the page and is not saved, so paste it again next time.
