About this tool & how to use it

What it does

Estimates your finish time for a mile, 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon or your own distance at a steady pace you know or from a recent run.

How to use it

  1. Choose whether you know a pace or a recent run, and enter it.
  2. Pick the race distance, or enter your own.

How it works

Finish time = pace x distance. At 8:03 per mile, a half marathon (13.109 miles) is about 1:45:29.

A recent run is turned into a pace first (time divided by distance).

The standard distances use their exact lengths: 5K, 10K, 13.1094 miles and 26.2188 miles.

Formulas and details
  • Finish time = pace x distance.

Assumptions

  • The pace is held for the whole distance, which real races rarely do.
  • Course, weather, training and the day change the real result.
  • It is an estimate and not a prediction.

Example

Input: The starting values already in the form

Result: At that pace, a half marathon would take about 1 hour 45 minutes 29 seconds (1:45:29). The pace is 8:03 per mile (5:00 per kilometer), held for the whole distance.

Questions

Is this a race predictor?

No. It holds one pace for the whole distance. A longer race is usually run slower than a short one, and this page does not guess by how much.

Can I use a walking pace?

Yes. Any pace works, including a walking pace.
