How it works

Grams = weight in kilograms x 0.8. At 160 pounds (72.6 kg) that is 58 grams.

The RDA of 0.8 grams per kilogram per day (adults 18 and older) is from the Food and Nutrition Board, as reported in a 2017 review that was read on 2026-10-04.

Pounds are converted to kilograms by dividing by 2.2046226.

Formulas and details
  • Protein (g) = kilograms x 0.8.

Assumptions

  • It uses the adult RDA only. It does not cover children, pregnancy or athletes.
  • It is the general reference arithmetic and not advice about how much you need.
  • People with medical conditions should ask their doctor.
