About this tool & how to use it

What it does

Shows what a percent or dollar coupon saves, or compares two coupons on your price to see which saves more.

How to use it

  1. Enter the item price and choose whether coupon A is a percent or a dollar amount.
  2. To compare, choose a second coupon and enter its amount.
  3. Read what you save, or which coupon saves more.

Everything is calculated in your browser: the prices and numbers you enter are never sent anywhere or stored. We do not know any store's prices or tax rates, and these results are arithmetic, not advice to buy.

How it works

A percent coupon takes that percent of the price: 20% of $80 is $16.00. A dollar coupon takes that amount, never more than the price: $15.00.

The coupon with the bigger saving wins: $16.00 against $15.00, so the percent coupon saves $1.00 more on this price.

Assumptions

  • A different price can flip the answer: a percent coupon saves more on a bigger price.
  • Actual retailer coupon rules vary (some cannot be combined or need a minimum): this page does the arithmetic only.

Example

Input: The starting values already in the form

Result: Use coupon A (20% off): it saves $1.00 more.

Questions

Should I use 20% off or a $15 coupon?

Compare them on your price. At $75 they save the same; above $75 the 20% coupon saves more, below it the $15 coupon does.

Can I use two coupons together?

That depends on the store. This page compares them one against the other.
