Commute Time Calculator

How much time do I spend commuting?

Enter your one-way commute time to see how much of the year you spend commuting.

About this tool & how to use it

What it does

Turns a one-way commute time into hours a week, hours a year, full 24-hour days and 40-hour work weeks.

How to use it

  1. Enter your one-way commute in minutes.
  2. Enter the days a week and weeks a year you commute (take off holidays and days working from home).
  3. Read the hours per year first, then the days and work weeks that equals.

Take off weeks for vacation and working from home if you like.

How it works

The round trip is twice the one-way time: 30 minutes becomes 60 minutes a day.

60 minutes x 5 days x 52 weeks = 15,600 minutes = 260 hours a year.

260 hours is about 10.8 full 24-hour days (260 / 24), or 6.5 forty-hour work weeks (260 / 40).

Assumptions

  • The time you enter is the usual one-way time: real commutes vary with traffic and weather.
  • A "24-hour day" is a full day and night, not a working day.

Example

Input: The starting values already in the form

Result: Your commute takes about 260 hours each year. That is nearly 11 full 24-hour days.

Questions

How many hours a year is a 30-minute commute?

Yes. Lower the weeks per year, for example to 48.

What does the commute cost?

The Commute Cost Calculator works out the money cost from the same kind of numbers.
