How to Use the Explain It Simply

The Simple Answer

Explain It Simply takes something confusing, such as a legal clause, a medical term or a technical sentence, and explains it in plain words at the level you choose.

What the tool does

The default level uses everyday words and short sentences. Other levels change how much background and detail you get. Any hard term is defined the first time it appears. For health, law or money, the tool explains the words and ideas and says that a qualified professional should advise on decisions.

How to use it

  1. Paste or type what you want explained. The box holds up to 4,000 characters.
  2. Choose a level: everyday language, a child (about 10), a complete beginner, or wanting the detail.
  3. Press Explain This.
  4. Ask for it simpler or more detailed with the buttons under the answer.

A worked example

The page's example uses the everyday level with this sentence: The lessee shall indemnify the lessor against all claims arising from use of the premises. In plain words, it means the person renting has to cover the owner if anyone makes a claim because of how the property was used.

Things to know

  • An explanation is not advice. It explains the text you pasted, not your particular situation.
  • An AI model can be wrong. Check names, dates, numbers and facts.
  • Your text goes to an AI service and is not stored on this site. Do not paste passwords or account numbers.

Common questions

Can I use it to understand a contract? It can help you understand the words. For a decision about signing, ask a qualified professional.

What if the first answer is still too hard? Press the simpler button under the answer, or choose a lower level and run it again.
