How to Use the Case Converter
The Simple Answer
Paste or type your text into the Case Converter and it shows the text in every case at once: UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case, Sentence case, camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, kebab-case and CONSTANT_CASE. Press Copy next to the one you want.
What the tool does
There is no button to press. Each case updates as you type. That makes it quick to compare, for example, how a heading looks in Title Case against Sentence case.
How to use it
- Type or paste your text.
- Every case appears below instantly.
- Press Copy next to the one you want.
A worked example
UPPERCASE and lowercase change every letter. Title Case capitalizes each word except short articles, conjunctions and prepositions of three letters or fewer, such as a, the, and, of and to. Those stay lowercase unless they are the first or last word or follow a colon. Sentence case lowercases the text and capitalizes the first letter of each sentence and the word I. The programmer cases first split the text into words at spaces, punctuation and capital letters, so XMLHttpRequest becomes XML, Http, Request, then join them. Each line is converted on its own.
Things to know
- Title Case follows an AP-style rule for small words. Other style guides differ, so check headings that must follow a specific guide.
- In mixed-case text, all-caps words such as NASA and spellings such as iPhone keep the way you typed them. Text that is entirely upper or lower case has no spelling to keep.
- In the programmer cases, numbers count as their own word (version2 becomes version_2) and punctuation is removed.
- Your text stays in your browser.
Common questions
Which case should I use for a headline? Either works. Title Case capitalizes most words and Sentence case capitalizes only the first. Pick one and use it everywhere on your site.
Why did my punctuation disappear? In camelCase, snake_case, kebab-case and similar styles, punctuation is removed because those styles are made of plain words joined together.
