Domain Age Checker

How old is this domain?

Enter a domain. You see when it was first registered and how old that makes it, counted from the registry's own record.

About this tool & how to use it

What it does

Shows when a domain was first registered and its age in years, months and days, counted from the registry's own record.

How to use it

  1. Type a domain, such as example.com, and press Check domain age.
  2. Read the registration date and the age in years, months and days.
  3. Read the note: a domain's age is not the age of the website on it.

Enter a domain name such as example.com. The age is counted from the registration date the registry publishes.

The domain you enter is sent to our server, which asks the registry that holds its record (found through the public IANA list) for its registration data. We do not visit the website, keep the domain or keep a history. Nothing you enter is sent to analytics.

How it works

The page asks the domain's registry for its record (using RDAP, found through the public IANA list) and reads the registration date. The age is then counted from that date to today in whole calendar years, months and days, together with the exact date and the number of days.

The age is never worked out from search engines or from when a site was first seen online: only the registry's own date is used. If the registry does not publish a registration date, the page says the age cannot be worked out instead of guessing.

A domain's registration age is a fact about the registration only. A domain can be registered years before a website is built on it, can change hands, and can lapse and be registered again, so it says nothing about how old or established the current website or business is.

Assumptions

  • The date is the registration date the registry published; a domain that was re-registered after it lapsed may show the newer date.
  • Age is counted in whole calendar months and days in UTC.
  • The domain you enter is sent to our server, which asks the registry that holds its record (found through the public IANA list). We do not visit the website, keep the domain or keep a history. To limit abuse we count lookups per visitor and per domain for up to an hour under one-way codes.

Example

Input: example.com, registered on March 4, 2019, checked on October 3, 2026

Result: example.com was registered on March 4, 2019. It is about 7 years, 6 months, 29 days old.

Questions

Does an older domain rank better?

This tool does not make that claim. Registration age is only a date in a registry record.

Does it show how long the website has existed?

No. A website can be much newer than its domain. Only the registration date is shown.

Why does it say the age cannot be worked out?

Some registries do not publish a registration date. Without it there is nothing to count from, and the age is never guessed.

Where does the date come from?

From the registry that holds the domain, through RDAP.
